TREMELLA FUCIFORMIS POLYSACCHARIDE
Native to China, Tremella fuciformis, commonly known as the “snow mushroom” or “silver ear mushroom,” is renowned for its translucent, jelly-like lobes that resemble underwater coral. This mushroom has been used medicinally since at least 200 AD, prized for its role in nourishing the skin, lungs, kidneys, heart, brain, and stomach. Historically, it was reserved for royalty in ancient China.
In cosmetics, Tremella fuciformis is valued for its potent antioxidant and anti-aging effects. It is a powerful moisturizing molecule, with an average molecular weight exceeding one million Daltons (>1000 kDa). Tremella fuciformis extract is considered a plant-based alternative to hyaluronic acid – though it offers superior moisturizing properties due to its greater water-holding capacity. Unlike hyaluronic acid, it forms a stronger protective film that does not cause skin tightening or flaking. Thanks to the hydrophobic properties of the film, it provides better hydration and leaves the skin feeling soft and silky.
The Tremella fuciformis extract we use in LAST is clinically proven to increase skin hydration by an average of 64.41% after just 3 hours, outperforming hyaluronic acid. Research has demonstrated that Tremella fuciformis polysaccharides enhance skin hydration by promoting the expression of key moisturizing genes (AQP3, FLG, CASP14), allowing for better water exchange between cells. This contributes to increased moisture levels, improved skin elasticity and resilience. Tremella’s polysaccharides also stimulate superoxide dismutase (SOD), a critical enzyme that protects against wrinkles and sagging. Additionally, it shows significant free radical scavenging abilities, offering immediate protection and leaving the skin smooth right after application.
