SQUALANE
Squalane is a saturated hydrocarbon derived from the hydrogenation of squalene – a lipid that makes up over 10% of natural human sebum. This transformation stabilizes the molecule, preventing oxidation while preserving its skin-affinity and emollient properties. Though present in smaller amounts in the skin, squalane closely mimics its lipid structure, making it exceptionally biocompatible.
Lightweight and fast-absorbing, squalane functions as a high-performance emollient. It restores the skin’s lipid barrier, improves elasticity, and provides deep, lasting hydration without a greasy feel. Clinical studies confirm its ability to reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and reinforce moisture retention, contributing to smoother, more resilient skin.
In addition to its moisturizing benefits, squalane offers potent antioxidant protection. In vitro studies show that it counteracts UVA-induced oxidative stress in dermal fibroblasts by modulating stress markers and activating protective cellular pathways – supporting its role in the prevention of premature aging.
The squalane used in LAST formulations is 100% plant-derived, vegan, COSMOS-approved, and sustainably produced from sugarcane via biotechnology. It meets the highest standards for purity, efficacy, and environmental responsibility.
